  Mission

The Middle East Consortium on Infectious Disease Surveillance (MECIDS) is a program focused on prevention of infectious diseases and food-borne illness. MECIDS facilitates collaboration between Israel, Jordan and Palestine to implement action plans in the event of a disease outbreak. MECIDS also facilitates dialogue between nations on recent developments in the health field, to renew their acquaintances, and to plan future activities.

Background

Since its founding in 2003, MECIDS has focused on food borne diseases, offering multinational training courses for health workers from Palestine, Israel and Jordan, giving them a chance to meet each other while honing their professional skills and creating a system through which the participating Ministries of Health share information directly. MECIDS members use this website to communicate with each other, post any new disease outbreaks, and report any suspected/confirmed avian influenza cases though a secured password protected area.
